How IRCC Calculates Processing Times

IRCC publishes the time it takes to process 80% of applications received in the previous 3 months. This means 20% of applications take longer.

Processing starts when IRCC receives a complete application โ€” missing documents cause delays and restart the clock.

Applications from certain countries may take longer due to additional security screening, regardless of what the published times show.

Pro tip: Apply using a complete, well-organized package. Include a cover letter listing every document. Incomplete applications are the #1 cause of delays and refusals.
