How to Improve Your Points

  • •English: Improve from Competent (IELTS 6.0) to Proficient (IELTS 7.0) = +10 points. Superior (IELTS 8.0) = +20 points.
  • •Work experience: Each extra year of Australian skilled work = +5 points (up to 5 years). Overseas work also counts.
  • •State sponsorship: If at 70–79 points, state nomination (190) guarantees an invitation. Requirement drops from 189's 90+ to 65+.
  • •STEM qualification: If you have a STEM degree, you gain +10 points instantly.
  • •Regional study bonus: Studying in regional Australia adds +5 points.
  • •Partner skills: If your partner has a skills assessment, you get +5 points (instead of +10 for no partner).
